The NWV Bremen conducts research in many working groups in the sense of a "citizen science", publishes the "Abhandlungen des Naturwissenschaftlichen Vereins zu Bremen" (Essays of the Bremen Society for Natural Sciences) as a scientific publication and conducts public events together with the University of Bremen, the Bremen University of Applied Sciences and the Übersee-Museum.
